Alex’s Story

mlab Summer 2011, Uncategorized

Alex is one of our 2011 summer missionaries who comes to us from Illinois. She took some time this week to share her experiences from Week 2. I can’t believe that week 2 is already over – this is going by so quickly! This past week I worked with a group from Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Mississippi. They were a group of about 45 who served in two different teams throughout the week. One team served at Taylor Park in the mornings, doing some recreational ministry with the kids from the neighborhood. They  did either 9th ward clean-up or homeless ministry. Another one of our ministry sites with Bethel Colony South, a ministry for people recovering from addictions. …

Teams from South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas, Alabama, and Mississippi came to love the city of New Orleans during the second week of our summer MissionLab program. Camp at Georgetown Apartments began this week, and Morningside Baptist Church hosted the first week of camp here for kids. It was great to see kids from last year’s camp show up again to participate in the fun activities that the MissionLab campers had planned. Pray for God to help these children grow this summer as they continue to come to camp! Morningside also was able to help with Vacation Bible School at Gentilly Baptist Church, where six kids prayed to accept Jesus into their hearts this week! It was an exciting week …

It was an amazing group of about 25 high school students, several chaperones and their awesome youth pastor, Jason. I’ve never met so many mature and Christ-centered high school students in my life. I hope that I helped them to grow, but I know for sure that they opened my eyes to …

MissionLab 2011 kicked off the start of summer on Sunday, May 29 with groups from Mississippi, Georgia, Texas and Alabama.  All were ready to serve and love the city! Each group had the awesome opportunity to help in many different areas of ministry this week. The group from East Booneville Baptist Church spent their afternoons helping out with Jesus Project Ministries’ kids camp in the Hollygrove neighborhood.  It was a great start to the summer for the ministry! Students from FBC Sylvania spent Tuesday morning partnering with Vintage Church to serve the Uptown area by going around to local businesses and asking if anyone  needed help that day.  Youth were able to clean windows and rake leaves for business owners …
