Andy is a 2011 summer missionary from Tennessee. He shared his story how he came to work in  New Orleans this summer. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Andy. It’s week eight! In our second to last week of camp we had groups from CO, FL, GA, NC, LA, TN,  and TX who came to love this city for Christ! Despite the chances of rain last week, groups ventured outside to do painting and yard work. Austin Baptist Church kicked off the first week of Learning Adventure Camp in St. Bernard. At this camp, kids can come and play …

MissionLab Week 7: July 10-16

It was a rainy week here in New Orleans, but that didn’t stop our groups from serving in our city. We had teams from GA, IL, MS, TN, and TX push through and work in the unpredictable weather during our seventh week of camp. One of the ways that we love the city is through prayer. This week, groups spent several mornings building relationships around our city by prayer walking. Groups that go prayer walking have the opportunity to better understand what they are praying for because they are experiencing the neighborhood and seeing needs firsthand. This also gives them a chance to interact with community members, listen to their stories, and pray for them right then and there. Pinelake Baptist Church …

Week 5 marks the halfway point of the summer for us, and the Lord has worked in amazing ways. This week, we had groups from South Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, and Alabama come love this city. Second Baptist Church Angleton spent time in many different areas of the city while serving in a variety of ways, including homeless ministry and a Backyard Bible Camp ministry at Taylor Playground. While at the playground, a student shared the gospel with one of the children at camp by using an “Evangecube.” That child was then able to share what he’d learned about Christ with some of the kids in his neighborhood.  There were close to 12 kids at the playground every …

Lauren is a 2011 summer missionary who comes to us from  Tennessee. She took some time to share about her time in New Orleans  and her experience serving alongside the other summer staff. “Alright, I like Oklahoma. They have snow cones and no humidity. Sign me up.” These were the thoughts running through my head as I was finishing my application to be a Summer Missionary at MissionLab. I soon realized, however, that Missionlab was not in Oklahoma, but the in the unique city of New Orleans, Louisiana- and thank goodness it is. I had no idea what to expect. I had never been to Missionlab as a student, let alone to New Orleans. I just knew that through prayer …

Lenny is a 2011 summer missionary that comes to us from New York. He took some time this week to share about his time in New Orleans. Firstly, thank you so much for the prayers, support, and encouragement throughout these last 3 weeks. Over 1,000 folks have come to learn missions, do missions and be missionaries. It’s been amazing! Jesus is our rock, and we can’t do this without him. Pray that we reflect and are reminded of that daily. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to serve with groups from Selma & Phenix City, Alabama, San Antonio, Texas, and La Quinta, California! Each team brought a unique dynamic to the table, and God used all of it. I’ve been …

mlab Summer 2011, Uncategorized

Week 3 is our biggest week yet! Groups from Alabama, Arkansas, Texas, South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, and California made the journey to New Orleans and loved the city this week. The firehouse neighborhood backyard bible club is a mission site in the 7th ward where children from the neighborhood come to play, do crafts, and learn about Jesus. Missionlab has sent groups out to play with the children for many years and this was our first week back in the area. Family Heritage Church set up their camp in a small, grassy lot located under an overpass next to the firehouse on Tuesday morning and went out in the neighborhood to meet the community and children. The community members let …
