Week 4: June 17 – June 23

mlab Local, Missions, Summer 2012

Week 4 marked the halfway point for MissionLab’s summer program! God continues to show up everyday to help MissionLab groups create great relationships with people as we send teams across the Greater New Orleans area. With the 6 new teams, as well as the Southern Baptist Convention in town, it was certainly a busy time for New Orleans! Cornerstone Fellowship Church from Waynesville, NC held a kids’ VBS in one of the parks around the city, and they helped share Christ’s joy through games and music at a Nursing home. Launch Point Church from Muscles Shoals, AL built relationships and even threw a block party for families at an apartment complex. Limestone Baptist Church from Cochran, GA helped with post-Katrina construction …

Week 3: June 10 – June 16

This week was packed with opportunities for God to use His faithful servants throughout the New Orleans area. 13 church groups from across the U.S. came to love and serve the people living here. Central Baptist church from Crandall, TX served by cleaning up areas of the 9th Ward and spending time getting to know and minister to some homeless folks in the city. Cielo Vista Church from El Paso, TX partnered with a local church to host a VBS for children around town. First Baptist Church of DeQuincy, LA began a playground Bible study in the mornings, and they spent their afternoons prayer walking and visiting a nursing home where they played games and got to know some of the …

Week 2: June 3 – June 9

mlab Local, Missions, Summer 2012

Although our second week had the smallest number of participants this summer, it was big in impact! Four more groups came to New Orleans to be used by God–and use them he did. During week two there were five students who came to know Jesus and one senior citizen who also began a relationship with Christ! Calvary Baptist Church from Lufkin, Texas started out their week by partnering with a local church to be a part of their ongoing urban ministry. In addition, Calvary also worked at a Vacation Bible School in Hollygrove and also spent time prayer walking and ministering to several homeless folks in the area. Faceville Baptist Church from Bainbridge, GA had a fun time building relationships …

Washed by the Water

mlab Global, Missions

Joseph* isn’t his given name. In fact, Greece isn’t his home country, and Christianity isn’t his family’s religion. Everything about Joseph’s life has changed, bringing this Middle Eastern refugee to an Eastern European church to be baptized by a Greek pastor. He stands before us in a baptism robe much too short for his over-6-foot-tall frame. He tugs at the sleeves a bit in an effort to pull them down to at least his wrists, and he smiles a little nervously. All the other men being baptized are barefoot, but Joseph is still wearing his maroon and gray striped socks and his lace-up sneakers. When it’s his turn, he stands up on the church platform, the robe barely passing his …

Coloring With a Purpose

mlab Global, Missions

We’ve been in Greece for a few days now, and I can honestly say that between the jet lag, the new experiences, and the language barriers, I am 100% overwhelmed – but in the absolute best sense of the word. Only hours after landing in Greece, our team was off and running with our first assignment: helping with the Thursday night programming at the center. I am on the kids’ ministry crew, so we came armed with glue, markers, candy, and a whole lot of excitement. Kids’ programming is a no-brainer for me, but this time around, I hadn’t really braced myself for the language barrier. I’ve never been on a service trip where I didn’t have at least a working knowledge …

Prepping for Greece!

mlab Behind The Scenes, Global, Missions

Summer MissionLab may have ended a few weeks ago, but the work is still going strong! At the end of the summer, Stacy and I got some incredible news that not long after we wrapped up camp, we’d be heading to Greece for a service trip of our own! The focus for our Global Project this year was refugee work in Greece. For nine weeks, we talked about the struggles of the refugees and the incredible ministry happening there. It seems so strange that after talking about it all summer that I’ll actually get to see it and be a part of it in just a few short days! While we’re there, our team will have the chance to meet …
