Getting Ready for Dream Team 2014

mlab Behind The Scenes, Jamie, Staff

This is a guest post from Jamie Stacy, our MLab Summer Missionary Coordinator. We’ll post the application for our 2014 summer staff TOMORROW at, so make sure you download it and apply!

Opportunity, growth, challenge, ministry, Jesus – these are just a few words that come to my mind as I reminisce on this past summer. It was my first summer working for MissionLab as the Summer Missionary Coordinator. Though I had experience working with college students in the past through Bible studies, evangelism and discipleship, I never had the opportunity to handpick a team, train them, and walk alongside them as they journey through an exciting and challenging summer.

SMsAs the pieces started coming together and once everything was in place, I was overwhelmed at the staff God brought to us last summer. They were so unique, all from different places and very special. Each brought something different and necessary to the team, so I coined them the “Dream Team,” because they were! As I prepared last spring I had a mix of emotions – excitement, anticipation, and nerves. I prayed often for direction and clarity about exactly who would join our staff for the summer to serve, work, play, pray, eat and live together. The environment is kind of like a pressure cooker. You do everything together and it is vital for the staff to be a cohesive team for things to run smoothly.

I was anxious at the task ahead, especially since it was my first summer with MLab. However, these 8 individuals made the summer memorable and easy. As it came to a close I was sad to see them go but excited for what God had in store for them as they returned to their universities. He has big plans for them. It’s been neat to see them grow and continue to live out God’s call on their lives.

Tomorrow, the SM application goes live, and I’m pumped! As we receive applications from SM hopefuls please join me in praying that God brings exactly the right team to carry out the mission: Learn Missions. Do Missions. Be a Missionary.
