Preparing the Way

MLab Christmas Tree‘Tis the season! Sure, it’s the season to be jolly (according to Deck the Halls), but as I was reminded the other day, it’s also a season of preparation.

Across the world, this Advent season is a precursor to ringing in the New Year.  People are preparing for all that comes with a new year: lifestyle changes, renewed hope and vision, and maybe finally losing that pesky ten pounds that absolutely plagued your 2016. But let’s take a step back and look at Advent season. Can we prepare for it? If so how should we prepare for it?

Advent is a good opportunity to spend some time evaluating your relationship with the Lord. As we reflect on all that Christmas represents, we must not forget our need for a savior. In his Solid Joys devotional, John Piper says, “What John the Baptist did for Israel, Advent can do for us.” Just as John the Baptist prepared the way for the Lord, so should we. We ought to prepare the way for Him to remind us of His redeeming love this season; we ought to make a way for Jesus to radically work in our lives.

Our prayer for you is that you would spend some time preparing the way for Jesus this Advent season. Make straight the paths for Him so that He may be glorified.

Have a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
